Palestine-Israel-USA, Politics, 6/11/1998
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered today in Selwan city near Jerusalem, inhabited by Palestinian Arabs, and the Israeli police clashed with peace groups, most of the them from the U.S.
The peace groups went to Selwan carrying posters on which they wrote slogans condemning the Israeli settlements, accusing the Israeli prime minister of destroying the peace process and announcing their opposition to the policy of the current government.
The Israeli police directed a call to the demonstrators to disperse, and when the demonstrators refused, the police arrested some of them and some were injured in the confrontation.
The Israeli police said that the demonstration was illegal and that they tried evacuate the demonstrators peacefully but the demonstrators refused.
