Meguid to visit UK
Regional-UK, Politics, 6/11/1998

Secretary-General of the Arab League Esmat Abdul Meguid will leave on Sunday for a five-day official visit to Britain.

The AL chief will hold talks with UK Foreign Secretary Robin Cook and with Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Derek Fatchett on issues of mutual concern. Well-informed sources said the question of Lockerbie will be among the issues Abdul Meguid will discuss with British officials, following talks with James Swire, official spokesman for families of Lockerbie victims, at the AL and in Libya.

The sources added that the Abdul Meguid will also hold talks on the current bottleneck of the Middle East peace process as a result of the Israeli intransigent stances and the efforts exerted to give the Palestinian - Israeli negotiations a push-forward.

The AL secretary will also take part in the meetings of the Arab - British chamber of commerce and deliver a speech at Oxford University Center for Islamic Studies.
