Inter-Arab investment fell by 24 pc in 1997

Inter-Arab investment fell in 1997 by 24 percent to $1.95 billion in comparison with 1996.
According to the Arab Organization of Investment Guarantee, Egypt received the largest share of Arab capital with $532 million, followed by Syria with $328 million and Lebanon with $312 million.
The organization also said that 36 percent of the investments went to the services sector, 31 percent to industry and 30 percent to agriculture, Map reported.
The Arab world took in, however, only 4.4 percent of the overall direct investments injected in the world.
