Lebanon, Politics, 6/9/1998
Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri stated that the preliminary results of the municipal elections in Beirut indicate balanced winning between Moslem and Christian candidates.
In press statements yesterday, he said that openness and balance in living together are important elements in which the Lebanese people believe.
This comes while Lebanese Interior Minister Michael Murr referred to the preliminary results of the third phase of elections in Beirut on Sunday which confirmed that Hariri's' list of candidates won 17,000 votes against 16,000 votes for the opposition list.
Hizbullah has had great success in various regions of the country. There was a ticket of candidates representing a variety of factions assembled by Prime Minister Hariri in order to maintain sectarian balance in Beirut.
