Syrian signs contracts for petroleum investments

Syrian Minister of Petroleum Mohammed Maher Gamal said today that Syria signed four contracts with foreign companies for drilling and investing in petroleum among which are Elf-Aquitaine, Shell Oil, and MOL, and referring to the existence of two contracts under negotiation with Canadian and Irish companies.
He said said that Syria has been working in the petroleum and gas fields for years, and that it deals with many companies, which confirms the mutual trust between Syria and the other companies.
The Syrian government has not yet decided on two offers presented by the US company Conoco and the Dutch Shell to invest in gas with the Syrian company for petroleum, in fields affiliated to the Elf-Aquitaine company.
