Confrontations continue in Algeria

Algerian security forces have during the two past days, killed 10 gunmen in al-Saeeda province, following a several-hour siege.

The Algerian daily al-Khabar said on Sunday that the Algerian security forces smashed a hand-made explosive device workshop. It added that one citizen in al-Bouira province fought off some 18 gunmen attacking his home until the army troops could arrive at the site and force them to flee.

The Algerian daily al-Aseel said that on Saturday Algerian forces killed 10 gunmen when they tried to attack a police center in al-Reghaya.

Sawt al-Ahrar daily reported that one citizen was killed by the Armed Islamic Group, and his 11-year old daughter was kidnapped in Ein al-Sultan town.

Meantime, the criminal court in Wahran province sentenced in absentia one guerrilla group member, Jamal Bin Dafo, for assassinating retired Maj. Gen. Khalil Habib.
