Trade courts to consolidate rule of law

The Moroccan government counts on newly-created trade courts to fully play their role in the consolidation of the rule of law in the economic field, to restore the confidence of investors and upgrade investments.
Morocco pins great hopes on these courts to improve the whole judiciary system, said Moroccan Justice Minister Omar Azziman at a study day held over the weekend in Rabat.
Talking on behalf of the prime minister, the minister in charge of the government's general affairs, recalled Morocco's commitment to upgrading its legislation and insisted that the state should continue to play its regulating role to control markets, see to the respect of competition laws and curb macro-economic and financial imbalances, Map reported.
Trade courts are a major pillar of economic regulations in Morocco, he added, citing as other moves the enactment of the trade code, the investments chart, the law governing companies and the law on competition.
All these moves, he said are geared toward deepening and consolidating the state of law and securing greater transparency and efficiency of implements governing enterprises in the perspective of the establishment of a free trade zone with the European Union.
Other members of the government described the courts, created last month in six Moroccan cities, as tools that will help the Moroccan economy face future challenges, mainly by building confidence and tolerance between the state and investors.
Other participants cited eventual problems caused by the judges' ignorance of banking and enterprise matters and the limited number of these courts.
