Sudanese official describes SPLA attack as maneuver

A Sudanese official stated that the attack launched by the Sudanese People's Liberation Army, headed by Colonel John Garang in the Blue Nile region of southeastern Sudan is aimed at cutting off the government from the regions of Gopa and Bahr El-Ghazal.
Motesam Abdul Rehiem, secretary of the national conference to trusteeship in the state of Khartoum, said that the Sudanese government is observing all the movements of the attacking forces and emphasizing that the struggle is imposed on all who are capable of carrying weapons who were called upon to defend the nation.
