Dams in Kurdistan under discussion by UN suborganizations

The condition of dams in Kurdistan was discussed in a meeting held yesterday between authorities of local Kurdish government in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and a delegation including Mr. George Hillhouse of British Panny and Company and the manager of UN Developing Program in Kurdistan.
They discussed methods of settling the obstacles facing the continuation of work at the two dams, Dokan and Derbandikhan, the two sole resources for required electric power in the region. The discussion was held on the sidelines of the UN resolution 986, oil-for-food deal between the UN Security Council and Iraq. It is expected that the British company will carry out the maintenance procedures on the two dams before winter.
