BBC appeals for release of its three journalists detained in Yemen
Yemen-UK, Judicial, 6/5/1998
The BBC has appealed to the Yemeni authorities to set free three British journalists who were arrested under charges of violating Yemeni laws relating to journalists working rules in Yemen.
The three-member British team, including the BBC correspondent for Middle East affairs Rajeh Omar, a cameraman and a producer, was arrested 11 days earlier. The BBC said the Yemeni security authorities accused the three British journalists of photographing in areas where filming is banned.
