US denies asking for Arab summit postponement
Regional-USA, Politics, 6/5/1998
The US has denied reports that it has asked the Arab states for a one-week time before taking a decision to convene an Arab summit conference. US undersecretary of state for political affairs Thomas Pickering was quoted as saying in a statement in Manama that the US has never asked for "the postponement of the summit."
However, Western diplomats in Amman had stressed that Pickering proposed the postponement on Tuesday in Amman to Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, who was visiting Jordan.
