Yemeni army officers executed under killing charges

The Yemeni news agency Sabaa reported that an officer at the Yemeni air-force was executed in Aden on Wednesday after he admitted to killin one of his colleagues.

The Yemeni news agency reported that "killer Saleh Ali al-Salawqi, an officer in contingent 130 of the civil defense force in the Southern military district was executed for his deliberate killing of Maj. Gen. Ahmad Hazam Saree of the same contingent."

It added that the court of military appeals endorsed the sentence of the military court in the southern military district, and the sentence was also ratified by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

This is the first death sentence carried out against an army officer in Yemen since the unification of Yemen in May, 1990.
