Meguid: Continuing talks on summit
Regional, Politics, 6/4/1998

Efforts and consultations continued yesterday among Arab leaders to discuss convening an Arab summit.

Esmat Abdul Meguid, the secretary-general of the Arab League, said that the consultations currently being held on the highest level among Arab leaders, tackle the summit's agenda, the nature of the participation and whether will it be expanded or limited.

In Muscat, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat resumed his communications yesterday to convene the summit after visiting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the current week.

In Riyadh, diplomatic sources said that Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi crown prince, was during his visit to Damascus and Amman to reconcile points of view between the two sides concerning the joint bases for the suggested Arab summit.

Libya, Algeria and Lebanon lent their support to convening the summit through their foreign ministers in Beirut.
