False information to create tension between Morocco and Algeria
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/4/1998

Moroccan Interior Minister, Driss Basri, warned on Tuesday against groundless information seeking to create tension between Morocco and Algeria.

Basri said during the weekly question time at the Moroccan Chamber of Advisors (upper house) that the situation is very normal on the Moroccan Algerian borders. There is no deliberate aggression on either side, Basri said.

Some Algerian press bodies have been reporting of tension along the Moroccan-Algerian borders, and accusing Morocco of granting safe haven to Algerian extremist groups. Morocco discarded the news as mere allegations, Map reported.

Basri stressed that both Morocco and Algeria are keen on respecting the rules of neighborliness and favoring cooperation.

He recalled that the Moroccan and Algerian authorities meet on a regular basis to deal with common-concern issues.
