Jordanian-Israeli joint committee starts deliberations
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 6/4/1998

Meetings of the Jordanian-Israeli joint committee started in Aqaba to study items of Aqaba - Eilat agreements in the course of Wadi Araba treaty endorsed by Jordan and Israel.

The Jordanian delegation is led by the chairman of Aqaba authority, Marwan Dudin, and the Israeli side by Foreign Ministry director-general Yuav Beiran.

The Jordanian weekly al-Sabeel said the committee will discuss several topics, including a list of 150 persons -- which includes businessmen from the two sides -- who are permitted to freely and continuously move between Aqaba and Eilat. Among the other topics that are to be debated is the possibility of issuing daily work licenses for 150 Jordanian workers from Aqaba in the fields of construction and electricity in Eilat.

Member of the Israeli delegation Done Sheirf said in a statement prior to the meeting that operating the Aqaba joint airport will be also discussed.
