Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi conferred in Rabat on Tuesday with a delegation from Amnesty International.
The delegation, was led by the organization's secretary general Pierre Sane, hailed the progress scored by Morocco in matters of human rights and inquired about the practical and juridical measures projected by the Moroccan government to settle the various pending human rights issues, a statement by the Prime Minister's office said.
Youssoufi asserted that his cabinet was seeking the appropriate solutions to these issues and was examining means of improving the juridical provisions related to the exercise of individual and collective rights.
Morocco is endeavoring to upgrade human rights and consecrate the rule of the law, said the socialist prime minister.
During the meeting, Youssoufi signed the document renewing Morocco's commitment to respect the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The document will be handed over to the U.N secretary general next December 10.
Pierre Sane dedicated on Monday in Rabat an Amnesty International regional office that will cover North Africa and the Middle, Map reported.
The opening of Amnesty's office in Rabat is a sign of confidence in the experience and efforts made by the Moroccan civil society and human rights activists, Sane had said at the inauguration ceremony. The Rabat-based regional office will endeavor to mobilize the Moroccan public opinion to assist other parts of the world through education, awareness-promotion campaigns and backing to the action of human rights activists, Sane said.
