Government, rebels disagree on who controls Yolo
Sudan, Military, 6/3/1998

The formal spokesman of the rebel Sudanese People's Liberation Army, Yasser Arian, said that SPLA forces took over the city of Yolo in eastern Sudan.

He added that the rebel forces killed 72 members of the governmental forces while three SPLA soldiers were killed. He also said the SPLA seized a number of artillery and light weapons after a wide attack on the city, confirming that his forces are attempting to gain control of the petroleum fields near the city and cut off the electricity to the Sudanese cities.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Minister of Irrigation Sherif El-Tohami denied that the rebels have seized the city and said that the governmental forces are successful in suppressing the rebel forces.
