Saudi Arabia wants Arab solidarity
Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 6/2/1998
Saudi Arabia has stressed the need to work for unifying Arab ranks and solidarity to face the hostile onslaughts the Arab nation has undergone, especially the Israeli occupation in Palestine, south Lebanon and the Golan Heights.
Presiding over the Saudi Cabinet meeting on Monday at al-Salam palace in Jeddah, King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz said the current Arab tour being made by Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz reveals Saudi Arabia's desire to strengthen common Arab action and her relentless efforts to preserve the Arab nation's potential.
In a statement following the Cabinet meeting, Saudi Minister of Information Fuad Abdul Salam al-Farisi said the Cabinet noted that the double-standard policy used by the international community in singling Israel out and excluding it from nuclear inspections has encouraged certain countries, referring to India and Pakistan, to compete in nuclear armament.
He called for a full embargo on nuclear weapons and to make the Middle East a region free of weapons of mass destruction. In this respect, the Saudi minister called upon India and Pakistan to maintain self-control and resume bilateral negotiations to serve stability in the region. He warned that the recent nuclear tests made by the two countries do not serve the interest of peace.
The Pakistani ambassador in Cairo Sunday met with the Secretary General of the Arab League Esmat Abdul Meguid to ask for Arab states' support.
