Richard Murphy urged European role in M.E. peace
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 6/1/1998

Chairman of the US foreign relations council, Richard Murphy, who is also former US Assistant Secretary of state has called for an effective European role to take part in reviving the Middle East peace process which has been suspended for months.

In an exclusive statement to the Saudi daily al-Riyadh published on Saturday, Murphy added that the US has to take part in the international conference to salvage the Middle East peace process which was advocated by France and Egypt to formulate an initiative bearing new ideas aiming at reviving the suspended Middle East peace process.

Murphy criticized statements made by the Israeli Premier Netanyahu claiming that peace process in the Middle East has died.

He continued that such statements do not help in proceeding the peace process, adding there should be "a spirit of optimism and keenness to achieve more successes among sides concerned with the peace process."
