Iranian parliamentary head to be chosen tomorrow
Iran, Politics, 5/30/1998
Iran said elections for the members of the constitutional protection council will be held on October 23. The council has the authority to choose and discharge the Iranian Republic's guide.
The members of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council (parliament) will launch elections tomorrow for choosing the head of the parliament, his two deputies and the members of the council's leadership.
The conservatives decided to renominate the current head of parliament, Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, and so far no one has been able to seriously compete with him.
The period of the parliamentary assumption is four years, yet the council's internal system imposes annual elections to fill the seats of the speaker, his two deputies, the six seats on the leadership organization, and committee leaders and members.
