Kuwaiti deputies reject Crown Prince's invitation
Kuwait, Politics, 5/29/1998

Some Kuwaiti deputies plan to refuse the invitation from the Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, which was sent to 1,000 Kuwaiti personalities to attend a banquet.

Sources among the deputies to whom the invitation was directed, said, "We do not know the motives behind this invitation, we are afraid the aim will be creating new laws."

The sources added, "We as opposition deputies did not agree on refusing the invitation or accepting it. It is left to each person's decision."

Al-Sabah directed the invitation to hundreds of undersecretaries, managers of governmental and the official organizations, businessmen and other local leaders.

An opposition source said, "This invitation aims at buying votes that object to increases in petroleum prices intended by the government soon."

However, Foreign Minister Sabah al-Ahmed said, "The petroleum prices issue is the governments' concern, and the parliament has no right to object this step."
