Kuwaiti parliamentarian confirms support for the Iraqi people
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 5/29/1998
The head of foreign affairs committee in the Kuwaiti Nation's Council (the parliament), Abdul Aziz al-Adesan, confirmed on Wednesday evening in Manama that Kuwait, on both the public and formal levels backs up the Iraqi people and stands with them, adding that his country never forgets the Iraqi people in their dilemma and said the Kuwaiti people have been presenting aid to the Iraqi people since 1993.
Then he described the accusations leveled at Kuwait as the reason behind the Arab disunity, saying that Kuwaiti always abides by its Arab identity and will participate in any Arab summit, even if Iraqi President Saddam Hussein attends it.
Al-Adesan called for Arab information to be balanced in dealing with the Iraqi issue.
He said he cannot forget the suffering of the Kuwaiti people and the prisoners of war issue, emphasizing that 620 captives -- a large number for a small country such as Kuwait -- remain in Iraqi prisons, despite Iraqi denials.
