Iraq condemns new Turkish incursion

Iraq on Thursday condemned the new "Turkish invasion of northern Iraq," announced its categorical rejection of Ankara's claims to justify its military operations in the region and asked it for "immediate withdrawal of its invading troops."

The Iraqi news agency quoted the spokesman for the foreign ministry as saying that Iraq's government "strongly condemns the new Turkish military actions and denounces the violations by the Turkish armed forces of Iraqi sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The spokesman demanded the Turkish government to "immediately withdraw its troops from the Iraq territories and not to come again with such practices which are in contradiction with the UN charter, UN law principles and good neighborly considerations."

Meanwhile, the Turkish Anatolia news agency said on Thursday that one Turkish soldier and 20 rebels from the Kurdish Workers Party were killed on Thursday in several operations carried out by the Turkish army in Van province on Turkey's eastern border with Iran, the Lebanese daily al-Nahar added.
