Israeli soldiers killed, wounded in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 5/29/1998

The Israeli occupation forces on Thursday continued aggressions against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. In retaliation Lebanese resistance forces detonated an explosive charge near an on-foot Israeli patrol on Markaba road, killing and wounding elements of the patrol.

Security sources in South Lebanon added that 8 Israeli soldiers were within the area of the detonated explosive charge.

An Israeli military spokesman admitted the deaths of two soldiers in south Lebanon and reported three as wounded as a result of the explosive charge detonated on Markaba road against a military patrol in the occupied part of south Lebanon. Israeli army radio added that the dead and wounded soldiers are from the Israeli "Golani" contingent.

Israeli security sources said that the leadership in the northern region ordered settlers in the areas adjacent to the Lebanese borders to stay in shelters as confrontations continued between Israeli forces and the Lebanese resistance.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes violated Lebanese airspace. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli warplanes on Thursday flew over south Lebanon and its western Bekaa and broke the sound barrier over the capital, Beirut.
