Sudan's unity stressed by Egypt and Garang after opposition meeting
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 5/28/1998

In the expanded meeting among the National Democratic Assembly's factions headed by Mohammed Osman El-Merghani, the head of the Sudanese Unionist party, in the headquarters of the general trusteeship of the National Democratic Assembly in Cairo, Youssef Wali, the secretary general of Egypt's National Party announced yesterday that Egypt supports Sudan's unity and that Egypt does not admit any division for Sudan with its South.

Wali said that John Garang, the head of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army, confirmed during a phone call before the meetings that his movement supports Sudanese unity.

Garang also called on Wali to inform Egypt's President Mubarak that the SPLA is not standing only with the south and north in Sudan but it also supports the unity of the Nile valley in Egypt and Sudan.
