Shiekh Yassin and George Habesh agree to form a new front
Palestine, Politics, 5/27/1998
A member of the political bureau of the Public Front for Liberating Palestine, Maher El-Taher, said that the leaders of the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, agreed with the Public Front for Liberating Palestine on forming a national front that comprises all the forces opposed to the Oslo agreements to overcome the disputes among Palestinian factions.
The leader of Hamas movement, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, headed the Hamas delegation during its meeting with the Public Front for Liberating Palestine delegation under the chairmanship of George Habesh in Damascus yesterday.
El-Taher said that Sheikh Yassin agreed during the meeting to Habesh's suggestion that Palestinian forces may develop the relations with Arab states on the bases of regaining the Islamic, international and national dimensions of the Palestinian issue because the Oslo agreements made Washington the only reference and because it has weakened the Palestinian nation.
El-Taher also said that the two sides agreed to develop bilateral relations and create trust between them for convening intensive meetings between them to overcome their differences.
