Palestinian AL delegate attacks US House Speaker
Palestine-Israel-USA, Politics, 5/27/1998
The Palestinian delegate at the Arab League, Mohammed Sobaih, attacked the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, for harming the peace process by supporting Israel's extreme policy.
In statements today to ArabicNews.com, Sobaih said about that Gingrich "is absolutely ignorant of what is happening here. He does not know anything about the critical issues and matters here. He is more extremist than the rest of the Israelis, and what he does distracts from the peace efforts of the two sides."
Sobaih said "Gingrich is preceding the final status talks, and violates international law as well as American policy."
Sobaih said, "Gingrich's attitude encourages the Israeli prime minister to resume his policy, which aims at distracting from the peace process." Sobaih criticized Gingrich's participation in Israel's celebrations of the anniversary of taking over eastern Jerusalem in the war of 1967.
