Meeting with President al-Assad, fruitful, Sheikh Yassin says
Palestine, Politics, 5/27/1998
Founder of the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas) Sheikh Ahmad Yassin praised Syria's position toward Arab causes, and its continued support for the cause of Palestine and the struggle of the Palestinian people to liberate their territories and establish their own independent state on their national soil.
In a press conference he held on Tuesday at the Meridian Hotel in Damascus, Sheikh Yassin described his meeting with President Hafez al-Assad as "brotherly," during which discussions dealt with the question of Palestine, its developments and relevant political stances.
Sheikh Yassin called for unity among Palestinian ranks and for mobilizing the efforts of all Palestinian groups to liberate the Palestinian territories. He noted that Hamas has no separate alliances. Sheikh Yassin denies the existence of any dispute between the political and military wings of Hamas movement, nor between the Palestinian people inside or outside occupied Palestine.
He also criticized the US-backed Israeli policy against the restoration of the Palestinian people's rights. He concluded by saying that victory will be ultimately for the cause of Palestine and the Arab nation and the Palestinian resistance will proceed until victory is achieved.
