South Lebanon fighting claims two SLA members' lives

Two Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia men were killed and another two wounded on Tuesday in resistance attacks against the Israeli occupation and militia positions in the occupied part of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said one of the militia men was killed in Hadatha hill position, while the other was killed during resistance attacks against the SLA position in Bint Jbeil. Two other SLA members were wounded in the western sector of south Lebanon, the sources added.

The Lebanese resistance said in a statement that resistance men attacked a large SLA militia force at the outskirts of al-Tiri town in occupied south Lebanon. The statement added that fierce clashes with machine-guns and rockets took place between the two sides and resulted in several hits among the militia forces.

Later in the afternoon, Lebanese army units moved out the teachers and pupils of Hadatha town's government school after they were besieged by Israeli bombardment. The shelling covered the town's populated districts, the sources added. Further reports said that Israeli troops continued attacking the towns of Hadatha, Barachit, Kafra, Yater and al-Ami area wounding one Lebanese citizen, Mariam Mansour, and damaging a number of houses.

Meanwhile, Israeli war planes carried out two raids over Kafra town in the western sector. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery on Tuesday shelled the towns adjacent to the western sector in the south. Citizen Muhammad Sweidan was wounded by the artillery shelling, bringing the number of the wounded to two.

The South Lebanon Army had acknowledged the death of one of its fighters in an attack launched by Lebanese national resistance-men on Tuesday on Bint Jbeil position to the north of Rashaia.

Lebanese resistance forces also attacked a SLA patrol in al-Tiri town with machine-guns and missiles. The attack resulted in the wounding or killing of members of the patrol, a statement released by the resistance-men said.

UNIFIL removed its barricades from the western sector area adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon and put red signs warning the citizens against crossing this area. Earlier, the Israeli occupation forces pounded with heavy artillery al-Tuffah district hills. News reports from south Lebanon said the Israeli artillery shelling targeted Mleita hill, Aqmata Farm, Sujoud al-Rayhan woods, al-Tasi spring course and al-Lweizeh town.

The Israeli bombardment also covered the outskirts of Jibal al-Batoum and Zibqin towns in the western sector of south Lebanon. The shelling hit residential areas in al-Lweizeh town. In the morning, the Israeli occupation position in al-Dabsheh carried out mopping-up operations with machine-gun fire on the woods of Kafer Tabnit town, al-Nabatieh al-Fouka, and the surroundings of two occupation positions in al-Danshe and Ali al-Taher.

Israeli warplanes carried out mock raids over Sidon. The monitoring committee of the "April Understanding" started its meeting held at UNIFIL headquarters in the border town of al-Naqoura. The five-member committee discusses several Lebanese complaints lodged against Israel for its violation of the Understanding's provisions and attacks on civilians in south Lebanon and the western Bekaa.
