Jordanian minister to review trade with Iraq
Jordan-Iraq, Economics, 5/27/1998
Jordan's Minister of Industry and Trade Hani Mulki left Amman for a two-day visit to Baghdad.
He is to meet with the Iraqi ministers of industry and trade to discuss the 1999 trade protocol between the two countries, the Jordanian contracts within the oil-for food deal between the UN and Iraq, and the future of Jordanian-Iraqi Company of Land Transportation and the methods to develop it.
The UN committee that supervises export contracts to Iraq has stopped 36 export contracts, 19 of them contracts signed with Jordanian companies. The total of export contracts during the last year exceeded $200 million according to the understanding memorandum.
"We hope that we can activate the protocol and increase it in this summer," Mulki said. He stated that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries may reach $500 million by the end of this year.
