Damascus hosts regional environmental meeting

"The Arab region needs more programs attended by the UN Environment Program and other international organizations for salvaging man and the environment," said Syrian Minister of Environment Affairs Abdul Hamid al-Munajid in Damascus yesterday.
At the opening of the consultative meeting on environment future vision in Western Asia, the Syrian minister called for the implementation of all relevant Rio de Janeiro summit resolutions.
The minister warned against further environmental deterioration in the 21st century. Representatives of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon are taking part in the three-day meetings.
