Assassins captured in Amman

Jordan's police stormed into the hideout of two men involved in a series of murder attacks in Amman which shocked the nation in recent months. An official statement released today in Amman announced that the assassins who killed in al-Rabiyah district in Amman six Iraqis, including a diplomat in the Iraqi embassy in Amman and two Egyptians working in the villa where the incident took place, were arrested in Amman's Sahab suburb.
The statement, which was released by the Jordanian police said investigations also uncovered the killers of well-known Jordanian lawyer Manandeh and his son and Awni Saad. The statement added that upon breaking into the place where the criminals hid in Sahab district, South Amman, one criminal was arrested and the other committed suicide.
In a third murder a taxi driver was killed on April 16. All murders took place this year. Investigations into these three crimes are continuing. "We have unveiled further information," police said without further elaboration.
The statement added that details on these crimes which were the preoccupation of the Jordanian public opinion will be announced later when investigations are completed.
Meanwhile Jordan's Minister of Interior Nazir Rashid announced that the criminals were seven Jordanians. "Police have arrested four, killed a fifth and the sixth committed suicide," the statement said, "and the seventh is now abroad."
A police officer was injured during the attack in Sahab, which lasted for several hours. One of the criminals is now dwelling in a European country and Jordan called for him to surrender.
Jordan's interior minister said that the police arrested three of the murderers while the fourth, their driver, was killed by other members of the band and left inside his car. His corpse was found 16 days after he was killed. Police have identified the two other members who are responsible for killing the lawyer, his son and the psychiatrist. The motive behind the crimes was financial, he said.
"The band members are all Jordanians. They have no links with others sides abroad," he stated.
