Counting the votes of the electioneers began in Lebanon
Lebanon, Politics, 5/25/1998
The operation of counting votes began today in Mount Lebanon in the first local elections to be held in Lebanon in 35 years.
Participation reached more than 50% without major incidents of violence despite fears of conflicts breaking out in some areas between Hizbullah and Amal supporters.
Groups of observers expect this round of elections, that was thought to be sensitive following the years of civil war, to be successful with regard to the inclusion of younger candidates.
