Deadbeat Arab states owe $140 million to Arab League
Regional, Economics, 5/25/1998
In press declarations on Friday from Sanaa, Yemen, Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid confirmed that the Arab League is currently facing a severe financial crisis due to some Arab states' objections over their share of the budget, while other states refused absolutely to pay their shares.
Abdul Meguid added that the countries overdue in paying their shares owe $140 million, which reflects on the Arab League's activities in all fields, forcing the A.L. to close some of its bureaus abroad.
He added that the Arab League is currently trying to persuade the Arab states of the importance of settling their debts to the Arab League in order not to affect the efficiency and activities of the Arab League.
