The Irani foreign minister in Emirates today
United Arab Emirates-Iran, Politics, 5/23/1998
Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi headed today to the United Arab Emirates on the first visit of an Iranian official since the crisis regarding sovereignty over three islands began between the two countries.
A UAE source told ArabicNews.com that Kharazi will meet with UAE President Sheikh Zayed Sultan al-Nahyan to deliver a written message from Iranian President Khatami tackling Iran's ideas on solving the dispute over the islands occupied by Iran.
The source said the visit will be of a great importance to Iran, because the dispute over the three islands is the last obstacle remaining among Iran and the Gulf states.
Crises between Iran and the Arab states have been declining as relations have improved, and the Arab states want to close the file of the three islands in order to open a new page in relations between Iran and the Arab states.
