Israel refuses to hold international conference for peace

Israel announced its refusal yesterday to hold an international conference for peace in the Middle East which Presidents Mubarak of Egypt and Chirac of France called for on Monday during their discussions.
The foreign ministry confirmed in a statement yesterday its doubts that this conference could enhance ongoing negotiations. The statement added that Israel believes in direct negotiations between it and Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
