Judgement over Henish Island dispute postponed
Yemen-Eritrea, Politics, 5/21/1998
A formal Yemeni source announced that the outcome of arbitration to settle the question of sovereignty over Henish Island between Yemen and Eritrea will not be announced on May 22, as was decided earlier.
The source added that the arbitration body demanded that the Yemeni and Eritrean sides express their written opinions on specified matters at the beginning of June, followed by a supplementary verbal session at the beginning of July.
The source did not specify the new date on which the judgment will be rendered, but he denied statements by the Eritrean president's advisor, Abdullah Gaber, which said that Yemen demanded a postponement of the judgment until July. The source stated that the postponement has not come from Yemen but from the court's authority.
