International tourism and the beautiful Riviera-Sinai
Egypt, Business, 5/21/1998

The Intentional tourism and Riviera-Sinai conference and fair was held on May 16, 1998 under the title "Sinai and tourism." The conference tackled everything concerning the Egyptian Riviera, especially the activities of the Riviera investors assembly, which comprises all the companies working in the region.

The assembly's strongest concerns are solving the problems the region is collectively facing such as floods and presenting collective services to all projects in the region. 95 hotel projects in the region are expected to be implemented by the year 2000. Each project is between 200 and 400 rooms which is the greatest volume of projects in Egypt.

The Riviera Region is deemed one of the most beautiful regions in southern Sinai since it is distinguished by its innate tourists attractions, as it combines the historical, religious, sports, amusement, and curative tourism with the hobbies of fishing and Safari trips. In addition it features clear sea water, splendid beaches, a scenic sea bottom with coral reefs and rare fish species and its climate throughout the year, as temperatures range between 32 C in summer and 22 C in winter.

While Nuweiba constitutes one of the sides of the golden triangle (along with Sharm El-Sheikh and Nuweiba Dahab), the Riviera is situated along the Thebes/Nuweiba coastline with a length of 65 km divided in to two sections -- the Nuweiba Section including El-Hamira El-Mahashy El-Asfal and El-Malha District with length of 20 km on the coast.

The Thebes section includes Thebes, El-Marakh Mokbela District, El-Hira District, El-Mahashy El-Aala District stretching over 45 km of coast.

Among the most famous and magnificent tourist regions in the Riviera there are Abou Galoum Reserve situated north of Dahab, combining its desert and mountain environment with animals, reptiles and birds together with its sea environment rich in coral reefs and colored fish; the famous Nuweiba Citadel; Pharaoh Island, built in the days of Salah El-Din; El Fayrod, characterized by its unique natural composition where the terra firma embraces the sea forming picturesque scenery; and Thebes, distinguished by its diving regions as well as the famous Doum-palm.

Recently, the Riviera region has witnessed significant tourist development and has become host to a large number of hotels and tourist villages. It is at present facing a perservation movement for the more promising tourist establishments which will play an important role in attracting more international tourism to that beautiful region.
