Meetings of Damascus Declaration states postponed indefinitely
Regional-Qatar, Politics, 5/21/1998

The meeting of Damascus Declaration states' foreign ministers was postponed for an indefinite time. Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber announced today that the meeting that was to be held in Doha this month will not be held this summer.

Damascus declaration countries comprise the six Gulf states in addition to Egypt and Syria.

Meanwhile the Qatari minister said that the reason behind the postponement relates to the commitments of the foreign ministers, he ruled out that there are disputes between Egypt and Qatar that may have lead to this postponement.

The minister also said that Egyptian - Qatari relations are proceeding on their natural track and are good, referring to the roles of Saudi Arabia and Oman in returning the relations between Cairo and Doha to normal.

Then he stated that the Egyptian - Qatari committee's meeting, to be headed by the two countries' foreign ministers, will also be postponed until a proper time.
