French, Egyptian Presidents propose conference on Middle East

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and French President Jacques Chirac on Monday proposed convening a conference of countries determined to rescue the Middle East peace process.
In a joint statement issued following their meeting in Paris on Monday, the two presidents stressed that the proposed conference should keep and confirm all existing principles and agreements.
The two presidents reiterated the Palestinian people's right to the establishment of an independent state. Earlier in the day, Mubarak had arrived in Paris on a three-day visit to France. A delegation comprising a number of ministers and businessmen accompanied President Mubarak.
