Moroccan King denounces Israeli violation of Middle East peace
Morocco-Israel-Portugal, Politics, 5/16/1998

King Hassan II of Morocco has asserted that Israel's denunciation of U.N. resolutions 342, 338 and the Madrid conference is no longer acceptable, adding that the International community has to take necessary measures to salvage the peace process on the grounds of the land for peace formula.

In a speech he delivered on Thursday at a banquet in honor of Portuguese President Jorge Sampayo, the Moroccan King added that the Israeli government has to remember history before it is too late and before conditions become more complicated.

For his part, the Portuguese President stressed the need to preserve the land for peace formula, and to halt settlement building in the occupied territories. He called upon the international community to honor human rights and the international law and not to embark on double-standard policies.

He, at the same time, warned against the grave consequences to be inflicted on the region if peace is not established.
