Saudi Arabia: Expected electricity generation increase requires annual investment of 17 billion riyrals

The Saudi minister of electricity and industry, Hashim Bin Abdullah Yamani, said today that the expected increase in the capability of electric energy generation in Saudi Arabia, at an average 2,000 megawatts annually during the coming 25 years will require great investments in the electrical systems development with 17 billion riyals annually, including 9 billion riyals for electric generation, 5 billion riyals for the transportation field and 3 billion riyals for the distribution field.

Yamani added that the number of the specialized factories in the electricity field in Saudi Arabia reaches 150 factories whose investments are estimated at with 5 billion riyals (U.S. $1.33 billion).

Yamani expected that sales of electricity this year will reach 2.7 billion riyals (U.S. $709.3 million), an increase of 94 million riyals (U.S. $25 million) over last year.
