Syrian official to Turkey soon to resume discussions
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 5/16/1998

Syrian sources confirmed today that the Syrian foreign minister's assistant ambassador Adnan Omran will head to Ankara at the end of the current month to resume political discussions between the two countries within the Turkish initiative that featured a number of meetings between the two foreign ministries' officials.

The sources told ArabicNews.com that relations between the two countries have improved recently, yet Syria insists that Israel is creating crises from time to time between Turkey and Syria.

The sources added that Syria is greatly concerned with maintaining relations with Turkey despite the danger the Turkish - Israeli military alliance presents to Syria's security to Islamic - Arab interests.

Turkey accuses Syria of supporting the Kurdistan Worker's Party, headed by Abdullah Oglan. Syria denied that Oglan is in Syria, Vice-President Abdul Halim Khaddam said.
