Egypt's ambassador in Israel warns of dangers presented by current situation
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 5/14/1998

In statements to the Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram yesterday, Mohammed Bassiouni, Egypt's ambassador in Israel, warned of the dangerous current status of peace in the Middle East, adding that not achieving progress on the Palestinian track may frustrate the Palestinian people which heightens the risk of dangerous consequences.

Bassiouni asked Israel to implement the signed agreement with the Palestinians which Israel's government is obliged to fulfill because it is an international commitment.

Bassiouni said Palestinian President Yasser Arafat showed great flexibility by agreeing to the U.S. suggestion that included an Israeli redeployment of 13% from the West Bank territories in order to maintain the peace process.
