Algerian foreign ministry dismisses Moroccan accusations of obstructing desert referendum
Algeria-Morocco, Politics, 5/14/1998
The spokesman of the Algerian Foreign Ministry, Savea' Abdul Aziz, said yesterday that Algeria denies Moroccan accusations that the Algerian press is seeking to obstruct the Western Sahara self-rule referendum.
In answering these accusations, he said there is a peace project and agreements between the two parties which accurately specify the mechanism for applying the peace plan.
Abdul Aziz expressed Algeria's hope that the two parties in the Moroccan desert, the Polisario front and Morocco, stick to the Houston agreements signed between them.
He said Algeria seeks to achieve security and stability in the area.
