Syria's Khaddam meets Lebanon's Hariri
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 5/13/1998

A meeting was held in Damascus on Tuesday in the office of Syrian Vice-President Abdul Halim Khaddam, attended by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, "in the context of contacts, consultations and coordination between the two countries."

Current developments in the region and contacts between the concerned sides were reviewed. The participants in the meeting listened to a briefing by Hariri on the results of his visit to Paris and his meeting with President Jacques Chirac of France.

The Syrian and Lebanese sides agreed on the need to foster Syrian - Lebanese cooperation to face the Israeli maneuver which they believe aims at voiding U.N. resolution 425.

Earlier in the day, Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Zou'bi received Hariri. Talks dealt with coordination and cooperation relations between the two countries and means of boosting them in various fields.
