G-15 summit works begin today

The works of the eighth session of the Group of 15 developing nations, headed by Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, started yesterday in Cairo. In inaugurating it, President Mubarak said, "There are different challenges that face the countries' group, yet I am sure that we are able to rise with the nations."
He added, "We are passing through a very critical phase, the deterioration that may face our economy, and that I am looking forward to the consultations that will take pace in this summit that will focus on two main topics. The first is the developments viewed by the international markets, the lessons taken from them and the importance of avoiding an economic crisis."
Mubarak referred to the second topic that will be discussed, the multiple parts international commercial system and the importance of benefiting from the opportunities and the positives it will create to raise people's standards of living in the group's member states."
On behalf of the African countries in the G-15, Algerian President Liamine Zeroual said, "Africa is convinced that all the goals adopted by the Group of 15 express its goals sincerely," and said that Africa "is willing to exert all efforts in order to achieve its ambitions in the development field, and occupy its real position in the international economy, which is witnessing a radical change" He added that the African states "want to be a concerned party in the field of taking international resolutions."
Zeroual also said, "We have the desire to be an effective part of international economical relations."
Zeroual urged the international group to do its share in supporting African development and its requirements of a fair distribution of natural resources.
Indonesian President Mohammed Suharto, the representative of the Asian countries, confirmed that the G-15 was affected by the economical disturbances that took place in the Asian countries and the importance of enhancing relations between the north and the south.
Peru's President Alberto Fujimori, the representative of Latin American and Caribbean countries, said, "We are determined to be strong to face the globalization, and that we should not accept it imposed on us and we must make it under our control."
