Saudi Arabia inaugurates King Fahd Dam

Saudi television said that Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on Saturday inaugurated one of the biggest dams in the Middle East with a storage capacity of 325 cubic meters of water bearing the name King Fahd Dam.
Saudi minister of irrigation and waters Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Muammar said the cost of the dam which is located in Beshieh district, in the south of the Kingdom was estimated at U.S. $66 million.
It is of 103 meters high and 80-meters thick, aiming at providing the district with potable water and at encouraging agriculture. The kingdom started the implementation of an ambitious program since 1984 which helped maintain self-sufficiency in wheat production, thanks to the great care shown by Saudi farmers.
