U.S. - Gulf negotiations to open U.S. markets to Gulf products
Gulf-USA, Economics, 5/12/1998

The U.S. capital of Washington D.C. will be the site of economic negotiations during this month between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the U.S. about opening U.S. markets to the Gulf states' exports.

An economic source in the Gulf Cooperation Council told ArabicNews.com that the council's countries set up a report that includes the topics that will be raised during the talks.

The source added that the two-day negotiations will begin on May 21, where the G.C.C. delegation will raise the topic of customs obstacles placed by the U.S. in the way of exports and products, especially because most of the member states in the G.C.C. are on their way to joining the World Trade Organization and totally opening their markets before U.S. and other countries' exports.

The source added, "We want the U.S. to apply the principle of similar treatment," He said it is illogical that these obstacles would still block Gulf products at a time the council's countries give great advantages to U.S. exports.
