Abu Rodinah: The Palestinian people will not surrender
Palestine, Politics, 5/12/1998
In a statement to the Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram, Nabil Abu Rodinah, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's counselor, said today that, "There is a silent and a hidden crisis between the American administration and the Israeli government" that is not being expressed in public.
He said that the U.S. officials did not officially inform the Palestinians of delays in the Washington meetings "because they feel ashamed of themselves, and they left this mission to a White House statement and the mass media."
Abu Rodinah said that the coming days and anticipated meetings in Washington "will be decisive after the failure of London's conference."
He also warned, "There are unjustly treated people that will not accept surrender and if they do not get their full rights, they will not allow anyone to live in peace and security in the region."
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the Palestinian president's office, Tayyeb Abdul Raheem, told ArabicNews.com, "We feel sorry for the cancellation of the Washington meeting, and we see that it has become very important that the American administration, the European countries and the whole world's countries to take practical steps to stop Israel's obstinacy and waste of time."
He added, "We will continue exerting all efforts in order to save the peace process."
Abdul Raheem also called on the U.S. administration to present "its initiative officially written and to publish it in public as a form of practicing pressure on [Israeli Prime Minister] Netenyahu so that the whole world will know the extent of the Israeli obstinacy and the Palestinian flexibility."
